Maria Tymofiivna Sabbatovska
Maria Tymofiivna Sabbatovska was a Ukrainian pedagogue who received the honorary title of Honored Teacher of the Ukrainian SSR.
Early Life and Education
Maria was born into the family of a priest in the village of Kamenechia, Kiev Governorate, on November 21, 1876. After graduating from the Fundukleevskaya Women's Gymnasium in 1892, she began teaching at a private boarding school in Uman.
Marriage and Family
In 1897, Maria married Andriy Havrylovych Sabbatovsky, the superintendent of the Uman Theological Seminary and later archpriest of the Uman Holy Nicholas Cathedral. In 1900, the Sabbatovsky family was entered into the third part of the Genealogy Book of the Nobility of the Kiev Governorate.
Career
In 1916, after her husband was appointed rector of the Pokrovsky Church in Podil, Kyiv, Maria moved to the city. She became widowed soon after. During the Civil War, she gave private lessons, and later taught at the secondary school №53 on Lenin Street, 10. In 1940, she was among the first teachers to be awarded the title of Honored Teacher of School of the Ukrainian SSR.
Post-War
After the Great Patriotic War, Maria taught at the Kyiv Women's School №57. She passed away on September 15, 1960, in Kyiv and was buried in the Lukyanivske Cemetery.
