Biography of Maria Sergeeva

Maria Sergeeva is an Estonian figure skater who competes in pair skating with Ilya Glebov. She has won the Estonian national championship three times, in 2007, 2008, and 2009.

Early Career

In 2004, Maria was paired with Ilya Glebov, and their coach was Ekaterina Nekrassova, a multiple-time champion of Estonia and former participant in European and World Championships with Valdis Miltans. They made their international debut in the 2006-2007 season, competing in the junior Grand Prix series. That same season, they won their first national championship and finished 7th at the Junior World Championships.

Continued Success

In the following season, Maria and Ilya competed in both the junior and senior series, placing 6th in the Cup of China and 7th in Russia. They also finished 6th at the Junior World Championships.

In the 2008-2009 season, the pair only participated in one senior Grand Prix event, NHK Trophy, where they finished 5th. They made their debut at the European Championships, placing 14th. At their last Junior World Championships, they had a disappointing performance, finishing in 12th place.

New Coach and Olympic Qualification

Before the start of the 2009-2010 season, Maria and Ilya changed coaches and moved to Torun, Poland to work with Mariusz Sudek. At the Nebelhorn Trophy 2009, they placed 9th and secured a spot for Estonia in pair skating at the Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver.
