Maria Tindara Gullo: Italian Politician
Early Life and EducationMaria Tindara Gullo is an Italian politician who has been a member of the Chamber of Deputies for the Forza Italia party since 2015. She is the daughter of former Patto vice-mayor Francesco Gullo and the cousin of Luigi Gullo. Gullo holds a degree in economics.
Political Career
Democratic PartyGullo participated in the Democratic Party of Italy's primary elections on February 24-25, 2013, in Sicily and was elected to the final list of candidates. She was subsequently elected to the Chamber of Deputies in the March 19, 2013, parliamentary elections, representing the 2nd Sicily XXV electoral district as a member of the Democratic Party.
Forza Italia
On December 15, 2015, Gullo joined the Forza Italia party. Since December 21, 2015, she has been a member of the XII Commission (Social Affairs).
Legal Controversies
In 2011, Gullo, her father Francesco, and her cousin Luigi became embroiled in a criminal case involving allegations of electoral fraud. Francesco Gullo, who was a mayoral candidate in Patti in 2011, was also running for a seat on the city council in the Sicilian local elections. He claimed local residency despite being registered in Montagnareale. He was also accused of electoral fraud, aiding organized crime, and unfair competition.
On May 15, 2014, Maria Tindara Gullo was one of seven deputies (along with Maria Gaetana Greco, Gero Grassi, Tommaso Ginoble, Maria Amato, Paola Bragantini, and Beppe Fioroni) who voted against an arrest warrant for Francantonio Genovese, who had gone against a Democratic Party decision. On December 7, 2015, Genovese left the Democratic Party in protest and joined Forza Italia, stating that he wanted to be in a party that cared about the problems of Italy and Sicily in particular.
