Biography of Marian Dragulescu

Marian Dragulescu, a Romanian gymnast, was born on December 18, 1980 in Bucharest. He is a strong athlete who specializes in disciplines such as vault and floor exercises.

Olympic Achievements

At the 2004 Olympic Games, Dragulescu helped his team win a bronze medal in the team event, despite making a mistake on the horizontal bar. He won a silver medal in floor exercises after a tiebreaker with Kyle Shewfelt determined the gold medalist. In vault, Dragulescu performed an extremely difficult jump that now bears his name (double salto with a half twist), and received a score of 9.9, the highest result at World Championships and Olympic Games since 1995. Although he fell during his second vault, Dragulescu was still awarded the bronze medal. This decision was controversial due to the significant discrepancy in the judges' scores, which should have been revised. As a result, Kyle Shewfelt dropped to fourth place. The Canadian federation filed a protest, but it was unsuccessful.

Later Career

Dragulescu announced the end of his competitive career in 2005, but later made a comeback and won gold in vault at the 2005 World Championships in Melbourne and later in Aarhus in 2006. He also achieved victory in floor exercises. Dragulescu no longer competes in all six disciplines, allowing him to focus on his favorite events, in which he has achieved great success.
