Marian Konopiński: A Blessed Martyr of the Catholic Church

Early Life and Education

Marian Konopiński was born into a devout Catholic family in 1907. He entered the Franciscan order as a young man and was ordained a priest in 1932. Konopiński pursued higher education, studying at the University of Poznań's Faculty of Social Sciences.

Military Service and Capture

With the outbreak of World War II in 1939, Konopiński joined the Polish Army reserves. He served as a chaplain to the XV Poznan Uhlan Regiment and was captured by German forces during the invasion of Poland.

Imprisonment and Martyrdom

In May 1940, Konopiński was released from captivity but was soon arrested again and sent to the Dachau concentration camp. There, he subjected to horrific medical experiments. In a tragic turn of events, he died in Dachau as a result of these experiments.

Beatification and Legacy

In 1999, Pope John Paul II beatified Konopiński and 107 other Polish Martyrs of World War II. His feast day is celebrated on June 12th. Konopiński is remembered as a courageous priest and martyr who sacrificed his life for his faith.
