Biography of Marie Trintignant

Marie Trintignant was a French actress who made her debut in the film industry in 1971. She starred in the film "It Only Happens to Others" alongside Catherine Deneuve and Marcello Mastroianni. The film was directed by her mother, Nadine Trintignant, who went on to direct a total of 12 films featuring her daughter.

Marie Trintignant came from a family of well-known parents. Her father, Jean-Louis Trintignant, was an actor, and her mother, Nadine Trintignant, was a screenwriter and director. Marie had four children from four different fathers, and she was previously married to the father of her youngest son, Samuel Benchetrit.

Throughout her career, Marie Trintignant collaborated with her father as well. They worked together in films like Ettore Scola's "Terrace" (1980). She gained recognition for her roles in films like "A Woman's Case" (1988) and "Betty" (1992), where she portrayed dark and complex characters.

In July 2003, Marie Trintignant was in Vilnius, Lithuania, filming a television movie about the life of writer Sidonie-Gabrielle Colette, directed by her mother, Nadine Trintignant. During her time there, she was involved in a violent altercation with her friend Bertrand Cantat, the lead singer of the French band "Noir Désir." Cantat physically assaulted her, causing severe head injuries. Marie remained in a coma for several days and was later transferred to the Hartmann Clinic in the suburbs of Paris. Unfortunately, she passed away the following day. The autopsy revealed that her cause of death was a cranial-brain injury resulting from the blows to her face.

On August 6, 2003, after a funeral ceremony, Marie Trintignant was laid to rest at the famous Père-Lachaise Cemetery in Paris.

In October 2003, Nadine Trintignant published a book titled "My Daughter, Marie," in which she accused Bertrand Cantat of being responsible for her daughter's death. On March 29, 2004, Cantat was sentenced to eight years in prison for murder and failure to provide assistance. He was conditionally released in October 2007 for good behavior.
