The Pumpkin Sculptures

Over time, Marilyn discovered an unconventional use for her sculpting talent – carving pumpkins. In her hands, an ordinary pumpkin becomes a true work of art, often unrecognizable under intricate patterns and designs. Marilyn has participated in various competitions and has emerged as a winner multiple times. Her sculptures not only showcase her unique style but are also executed with exceptional skill and technique.

The Process

Marilyn shares some of her secrets on her website. Before starting to work with a pumpkin, she removes the pulp, focusing solely on the walls. She then treats the pumpkin using a special technique and applies layers of acrylic or oil paint. Only after the pumpkin is primed does Marilyn begin carving her whimsical patterns and scenes. She often cuts flowers, leaves, and other elements from other pumpkins and attaches them to her canvas-like pumpkin. The result is three-dimensional and incredibly intricate artwork.

Achievements and Recognition

Marilyn is grateful for the day she had the idea to express her artistic nature using the unconventional and unique material of pumpkins. She takes great pride in her skill and cherishes every day filled with creativity. Today, Marilyn's collection includes pumpkins of various shades, subjects, and ornaments. Her unconventional artwork has brought her some fame. She is not the only artist in the world working with pumpkins; Ray Villafane, for example, sculpts dramatic scenes out of pumpkins.
