Legislative Initiatives

Foley advocated for various causes, including combating child pornography, protecting the Everglades, and supporting Holocaust survivors. He also worked on legislation to expedite the deportation of certain nonviolent foreign offenders.

Departure from Congress

In September 2006, Foley resigned from Congress after allegations surfaced that he had sent sexually explicit electronic messages to underage congressional pages. Investigations by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement did not lead to any criminal charges.

Post-Political Life

After leaving Congress, Foley worked in real estate in Palm Beach, Florida. He publicly came out as gay in 2007 and was in a relationship with Layne Nisenbaum, a Palm Beach dermatologist. In 2009, Foley launched his own political talk show, "Foley on Politics."

Controversial Legacy

Foley's legacy is marred by the sexual misconduct allegations that led to his resignation. Despite his record of legislative accomplishments, his association with the page scandal has overshadowed his earlier political achievements. The incident has also drawn attention to the issue of closeted politicians in the Republican Party.
