Amélie de Montchalin: A French Politician's Journey

Early Life and Education

Amélie de Montchalin was born into a family with deep roots in dairy farming. Her grandfather was a regional leader in the industry, and her family operates a 200-hectare farm with around 300 dairy cows and a yogurt production facility.

Amélie herself pursued a distinguished academic path. She graduated from HEC Paris (Ecole des Hautes Études Commerciales), studied economics at Université Paris-Dauphine, and history at Université Paris-Sorbonne. She also earned a Master's degree from Harvard Kennedy School.

Professional Career

Amélie de Montchalin began her career as an economist for the Eurozone at BNP Paribas. She later worked in Chile for AXA Insurance and as a political analyst for the European Commission. During the financial crisis, she served as a junior economist for Exane before returning to AXA in 2014 as Head of Public Policy.

Political Career

Amélie de Montchalin joined the "La République En Marche!" party in 2016. In the 2017 parliamentary elections, she won a landslide victory in the 6th constituency of Essonne with 61.3% of the vote.

Government Positions

In March 2019, Amélie de Montchalin was appointed Secretary of State for European Affairs in the Philippe II government. In July 2020, she became Minister of Public Service in the Castex government.

In 2021, she ran in the regional elections in Île-de-France but failed to win a mandate. In May 2022, she was appointed Minister for Ecological Transition and Territorial Development in the Borne government.

After losing her parliamentary seat in June 2022, Amélie de Montchalin did not receive any appointments in the second Borne government formed in July 2022.

Personal Life

Amélie de Montchalin married Guillaume de Montchalin in 2009, and they have three children. Guillaume de Montchalin is an aristocrat and businessman. He is a member of the management team at Consumer and Marketing Sales & Pricing, owned by the Boston Consulting Group.
