Early Life and Career

Mark Brescianois an Italian-Australian footballer who plays as an attacking midfielder. Born to an Italian father and a Croatian mother, he grew up in the Rosanna suburb of Melbourne. At age 15, he began playing for the Bulleen Lions and made nine appearances with four goals in two years. Despite his limited playing time, he was selected for the Australian Schoolboys team and toured the United Kingdom.

Australian National Team Beginnings

In 1997, Bresciano joined the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS), where he met his future teammate Vince Grella. Together, they signed with the Carlton Soccer Club. Although initially a reserve player, Bresciano quickly became a regular starter and helped Carlton reach the NSL Grand Final, which they ultimately lost. He played 28 matches and scored four goals for Carlton, while also representing Australia at various youth levels.

Italian Club Career

In 1999, Bresciano and Grella moved to Italian club Empoli, which had been relegated to Serie B. Bresciano became a first-team regular and helped Empoli return to Serie A in the 2001-02 season, scoring 10 goals. During this time, he also played for Australia's Olympic team at the 2000 Olympics.

In 2002, Bresciano was transferred to Parma for €7 million, then a record fee for an Australian player. Injuries hampered his first season, but he helped Parma finish fifth in the league. Grella later joined him at the club. Bresciano became Parma's leader in the 2003-04 season, scoring 10 league goals and leading the team to another fifth-place finish.

International Success and Controversies

Bresciano's international career reached a peak in 2005, when he played a crucial role in Australia's qualification for the FIFA World Cup. His goal in a home match against Uruguay proved decisive. However, he was involved in a controversial incident during a match against Catania in Italy, where he was affected by police tear gas used against fans.

Later Career and Personal Life

After the World Cup, Bresciano signed a four-year deal with Palermo. He played regularly in his first season but was injured by tear gas again in a match against Catania. Following a brief trial with Manchester City, Bresciano returned to Palermo and eventually regained his starting role.

In 2010, Bresciano had a brief stint with Saudi Arabian club Al-Nasr. He then joined Lazio for two years, earning €1 million per season. However, he terminated his contract with Lazio in 2011 and signed with Dubai-based Al-Nasr.

Bresciano married Renae Capitani in 2006, and they have a daughter named Alessia. He is known for his strong leadership and determination on and off the field.
