Early Life and Education
Markéta Pekarová Adamová was born on October 2, 1984, in Litomyšl. She graduated from high school in Svitavy and moved to Prague to work in the sales department of T-Mobile's Czech branch. From 2006 to 2008, she pursued a bachelor's degree in Philosophy at Charles University, specializing in the employment of people with disabilities. She then earned a Master's degree in Economics and Management in Industry at the Czech Technical University from 2009 to 2011.
Early Career and Volunteerism
Pekarová Adamová worked at T-Mobile for four years and later at a staffing and training agency. She has also been actively involved in volunteer work, participating in international volunteering programs in Армения, Morocco, Serbia, and Scotland. She has organized children's camps and events for underprivileged children in the Czech Republic.
Political Engagement and Rise
In 2009, Pekarová Adamová joined the newly formed TOP 09 party. She became the regional chairwoman of TOP 09 in Prague 8 in 2012 and 2013 and a member of the regional presidency in 2013. At the party congress in 2015, she was elected one of the party's vice-chairpersons.
Pekarová Adamová was elected to the Municipal Council of Prague 8 in 2010 and re-elected in 2014. In 2013, she was elected to the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic and re-elected in 2017. At the 2017 party congress, she was elected first vice-chairwoman.
Leadership of TOP 09
In 2019, Pekarová Adamová announced her candidacy for the chairmanship of TOP 09. She was supported by Dominik Feri, Luděk Niedermayer, and Jiří Pospíšil. At the party congress in November 2019, she was elected chairperson with 53.9% of the votes. She was re-elected in November 2021 with 93% of the votes.
Parliamentary Speaker
In the 2020 parliamentary elections, Pekarová Adamová was re-elected as an MP and became the Prague leader of the "Together" coalition. Following the elections, she was elected Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies on November 10, 2021.
Political Views
Pekarová Adamová supports voluntary refugee intake and has criticized the government for refusing to accept refugees from overcrowded camps. She opposes mandatory quotas for refugee distribution within the European Union.
