Early Life and Political Beginnings

Born and raised in Budapest, Hungary, Erzsébet Schmuck graduated from Matthias Corvinus High School before pursuing a degree in Political Science at King Sigismund College (now Milton Friedman University). Her initial political involvement began in 2010, when she joined the leadership of the Hungarian Socialist Party (MSZP) in Budapest's 14th district.

Socialist Party Experience

Schmuck's association with MSZP saw her participate in municipal elections in 2010 and 2011. In 2012, she was elected to the party's board, and in 2014, she secured a seat in parliament as part of a left-wing coalition led by MSZP.

Break with Socialist Party

However, Schmuck's tenure with MSZP proved short-lived. Disillusioned with the party's focus on survival rather than genuine opposition to the government, she resigned from MSZP and its parliamentary faction in January 2017.

Independent and LMP Membership

Despite leaving MSZP, Schmuck retained her parliamentary seat as an independent. In September 2017, she joined the parliamentary faction of the "Politics Can Be Different" (LMP) party, which she officially became a member of in December of that year.

LMP Involvement

As a member of LMP, Schmuck ran as a candidate in the 2018 parliamentary elections. While she failed to win her district, she gained entry to parliament through LMP's party list. She currently serves as Deputy Chair of the parliamentary Committee on Defence and Internal Affairs.
