Marta Muthoni: A Kenyan Mother with a Baby Born with 28 Teeth

Marta Muthoni, an African woman from Kenya, made medical history when she gave birth to a baby boy with 28 fully formed teeth. Many doctors at the time expected the child's development to be abnormal, but to their surprise, the baby grew and thrived just like any other child, except for his complete set of teeth.

Marta Muthoni resides in Ndunduri village in Nyandarua County, Kenya. She gave birth to her son in 2007 at the age of 30, and the delivery took place at home. Although the baby was born healthy, there was one detail that shocked everyone who examined him: he had teeth in his mouth from birth, a complete set of 28. Interestingly, it took Marta some time to notice this unusual feature, as she realized it when her newborn son bit her while breastfeeding. Upon inspecting his mouth, she was alarmed to find fully formed white teeth in the mouth of her newborn.

When Marta informed her husband about this, he initially dismissed it, but eventually decided to check the baby's mouth himself. After examining their child, Marta's husband left without saying a word.

A few days later, the unique baby was referred to Nakuru Provincial General Hospital for a thorough medical examination. Apart from the teeth, no developmental abnormalities were found. The doctors advised Marta to feed her baby using a bottle instead of breastfeeding, and they sent them back home. Since then, Marta Muthoni lived in constant worry, fearing that her son might have other abnormalities. However, the baby grew and developed normally, alleviating her concerns.

It should be noted that for Marta, having an unusual child was even more challenging due to the scrutiny of their entire village, suspecting something amiss. She had to summon all her strength to continue living normally and not show her distress. Over time, things settled down, and by the time her son's peers had grown their teeth, he no longer stood out among them. Marta breathed a sigh of relief. Later, she admitted that it was an incredibly difficult time for her, as she received no support from anyone, including her own relatives, who viewed the unusual baby with suspicion. However, those sentiments were eventually forgotten.

Meanwhile, doctors were unable to explain the cause of this deviation from the norm, and the mystery remains unsolved. Marta's son, on the other hand, happily plays with his village friends and easily handles adult food.
