Biography of Martin Erat
Early Life and CareerMartin Erat, a Czech hockey player, was born in 1981 in the small town of Třebíč, Czechoslovakia. Like many boys, he enthusiastically participated in various sports, with hockey eventually becoming his main focus. His older brother, Roman, also played hockey, so at the age of five, Martin made it clear to his parents that he wanted to join in. Supportive of their sons' passion, his parents made every effort to provide them with a strong sports education. Even at a young age, Martin demonstrated excellent skating and playing skills, promising a successful career in the sport.
NHL Career
Erat made his debut in the NHL in 1999 when he was selected by the Nashville Predators in the seventh round of the draft, 191st overall. His first season was not particularly remarkable, but he steadily solidified his position on the ice. By the end of the season, he had scored 27 goals and had 27 assists in 66 games. The management of the Nashville Predators decided that Erat would benefit from further training among the juniors, and he spent the next season with the Saskatoon Blades. Upon his return, Martin had a breakthrough, scoring a record-breaking 33 goals and making 24 assists in 80 games.
Later Career
In 2006, Erat signed a two-year contract with the Predators, with 49 points (20 goals and 29 assists) from the previous season. He also represented the Czech Olympic team in 2006, winning the bronze medal in Turin. It was Erat who scored the opening goal in the match between Russia and the Czech Republic for the Olympic bronze medal. In the 2006-07 season, Erat suffered an injury and was forced to miss the last five weeks of play. In 2008, the Nashville Predators signed a seven-year contract with Erat worth $31.5 million. By that time, he had played just over 400 NHL games, accumulating a total of 253 points (85+168) and setting a personal record of 23 goals in a season. In 2010, Erat was selected to represent the Czech Olympic hockey team in Vancouver, alongside renowned forwards Jaromir Jagr and Milan Michalek. Interestingly, the Czech team faced off against the Russian team during the group stage of the Olympic tournament.
