Masha Telnaya, a Ukrainian model, is known for her unique and striking appearance. Her eyes, which are considered to be the largest in the world, have earned her nicknames such as "Slavic elf," "alien," and "cosmic visitor." Despite being initially self-conscious about her height and slim figure, Masha's modeling career skyrocketed due to her exceptional features.
Early Life
Masha Telnaya was born on December 28, 1991, in Kharkiv, Ukraine. She grew up in a modest household, with her father working as an electronics trader and her mother being an accountant at a taxi company. Masha inherited her distinctive eyes from her father, and they complemented her lovely face.
At the age of 13, Masha experienced a significant growth spurt, losing her childhood plumpness. Like many girls with model-like proportions, she became self-conscious about her height and slimness. When strangers on the street would comment, "Look at that beauty!", Maria would feel embarrassed and try to quickly leave.
Masha had a passion for handicrafts and attended sewing classes. She rarely used cosmetics and had plans to pursue a stable and calm career as an economist.
A Life-Changing Encounter
One day, Masha's life took a drastic turn when she met Yana Zamekhovskaya, the director of the "Nika Models" modeling agency. Yana approached Masha and invited her for a photoshoot. While Masha remained silent, her grandmother was skeptical and hesitant to trust a stranger's offer. However, after a family discussion, it was decided that Masha would go for the shoot accompanied by her parents.
The studio environment dispelled her parents' concerns, and the photographs confirmed that Masha possessed not only exceptional modeling qualities but also great photogenic appeal. After her first photoshoots for Kiev magazines, Masha caught the attention of Stas Yanklevsky, the director of the international department at "L-models."
Contrary to the common practice of starting international modeling careers in Asian countries, where beauty standards are not as strict, Masha received an invitation to Paris from one of the largest agencies, "Women," within just three months. She embarked on her first trip to France alongside Yana Zamekhovskaya.
Masha's unique appearance caught the eye of renowned photographers, and she often attended five to seven castings daily. She walked the runways for prestigious fashion houses like Nina Ricci, John Galliano, Givenchy, and YSL, solidifying her position among the top 30 models in the world. Her striking face graced the covers of the most famous glossy magazines.
In Ukraine, Masha Telnaya became the face of Lilya Pustovit fashion house while securing contracts with Prada, Cosmopolitan, and other designers and fashion publishers. She also garnered significant interest from internet users, although their assessments were not always enthusiastic. Masha received criticism for her slender figure (despite not dieting) and protruding ears (even though "stuck-out" ears are considered a flaw for a top model). However, Maria no longer paid attention to such remarks.
Modeling Career and Beyond
Unlike some models who inspire imitators and become trendsetters, Masha Telnaya's unique appearance remains unrivaled. Not all leading fashion houses invite models with unconventional looks, and in many countries, such as Italy, fashion designers prefer conventionally beautiful faces. Therefore, it remains uncertain whether Masha Telnaya is an exclusive phenomenon in the fashion industry or merely a manifestation of a trend for unusual appearances.
After working for several years under demanding conditions that restricted her from getting married, having children, and even sharing her phone number with new acquaintances, Masha realized that there is more to life than just fashion shows. She enrolled as a student at the Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute, and in July 2013, she married musician and performer Denis Zastebu. Their son, Artem, was born in November 2014, and Masha happily embraced her role as a mother. Remarkably, her slim figure remained unchanged after giving birth.
Currently, Maria Telnaya is working on a joint project with Tamani Fashion Group and is also involved in teaching activities.
