Massinissa of Riff is a prominent figure in the world of philanthropy and social activism. He is the great-great-grandson of the last tribal monarch of the Rif region, Prince Amar Mohammed Ameziane.
Early Life and Activism
Massinissa's father, Sidi Abdelhaq Akandouch, was a renowned singer and songwriter. As a child, Massinissa became involved in social activism alongside his family, attending conferences, protests, and campaigns focused on promoting Berber and Riffian identity, culture, and language, as well as feminism and social justice.
Family Heritage
The Akandouch family has been part of the African aristocracy since the 19th century. Massinissa's paternal great-great-grandfather, Prince Amar Mohammed Ameziane, led the Riffians in the fight against Spanish colonization. He died heroically in battle during the Court campaign.
Foundation des Tribus du Rif
Massinissa is the founder and president of the Rif Tribes Foundation, a humanitarian and creative organization dedicated to empowering the youth of the Rif mountains in northern Morocco.
