Early Life and Family BackgroundMathieu Carrière, born in 1946, is a renowned German actor. Being the brother of actress Marajka Carrière, Mathieu grew up in Berlin and later in Lübeck from 1962 onwards. His parents were Bern Carrière, a psychiatrist and psychoanalyst, and Jutta Carrière, a radiology assistant and homemaker. Tragically, Mathieu and Marajka lost a brother who committed suicide in 1979.
Acting Career
With his debut in 1962, Mathieu Carrière has established himself as a prolific actor. Appearing in over 300 films and television shows, he has gained international recognition for his versatility and charismatic performances. Some of his notable roles include "The Princess and the Goblin" (1991), "The NeverEnding Story II: The Next Chapter" (1990), and "The Passion of Christ" (2004).
Social Advocacy
Beyond his acting career, Mathieu Carrière has become an outspoken critic of divorce and custody laws in Germany. In 2005, he made a televised address condemning these laws as discriminatory against men and rooted in outdated views from the Nazi era. He has also been involved in a long-running custody dispute over his daughter, Elena, whose mother has denied him visitation rights on the grounds of child privacy.
In 2005, Carrière faced imprisonment after being sued by his daughter's mother for allegedly failing to prevent a photographer from taking her picture while on a visit to the circus. A protest held outside the prison where he was detained saw 200 men dressed in prison garb demonstrating in his support.
Political Activism
During the 2005 elections, Mathieu Carrière publicly endorsed the Left Party, a democratic socialist party in Germany. His political activism has centered around advocating for men's rights, criticizing social injustices, and promoting a more gender-balanced society.
