Matthew James Bellamy, known as Matt Bellamy, was born in 1978 in Cambridge, England. He is a vocalist, guitarist, keyboardist, and composer, best known as the frontman of the band Muse.

Early Life and Musical Background

Matt's father, George Bellamy, was a former member of the band "The Tornados," who were the first English group to conquer the American charts with their hit song "Telstar." This song later inspired Matt to create his own composition, "Knights of Cydonia." Under his father's influence, Matt began learning to play the piano from a young age and started playing the guitar at the age of 14. After his parents' divorce in the 1980s, Matt moved in with his grandmother, who supported his musical aspirations by helping him purchase equipment and instruments.

Formation of Muse

In 1994, Matt, along with his friends, formed their first band called "Rocket Baby Dolls" in Teignmouth, Devon. They won a school competition among bands and decided to pursue music professionally. This marked the birth of Muse. Matt was unanimously chosen as the vocalist and guitarist, while Chris Wolstenholme became the bassist, and Dominic Howard joined as the drummer. They selected Teignmouth Community College as their rehearsal base.

Chris Wolstenholme, who had always played bass, also sought to explore new sounds and began using guitar effects for bass, often creating the impression of a rhythm guitarist in many of their songs. Matt has expressed his love for classic Fender, Gibson, and Rickenbacker guitars.

Matt Bellamy has received numerous awards for his exceptional guitar playing, including being ranked 19th in "The 50 Greatest Guitarists Ever" and 29th in the "Top 100 Guitarists of All Time" lists. The guitar riff from their song "Plug In Baby" also secured the 13th position in the "Top 100 Riffs of All Time."
