Matthew Breeze: A Distinguished Australian Football Referee

Matthew Breeze, an Australian football referee, embarked on his distinguished career at the young age of 22. In his debut season, he officiated an impressive 20 matches.

International Recognition

Breeze's exceptional abilities earned him a spot on the FIFA Referees List in 2001. That same year, he made his international debut in an Oceania World Cup Qualifying match. Subsequently, he was selected to referee the OFC Nations Cup in 2002.

World Cup and Confederations Cup Experience

In 2003, Breeze reached new heights by refereeing the FIFA U-20 World Cup in the UAE. He presided over four games, including the third-place match between Colombia and Argentina. His reputation continued to grow as he officiated matches at the 2005 FIFA Confederations Cup, once again earning the honor of refereeing the third-place match between Germany and Mexico.

AFC Involvement

After Australia joined the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) in 2007, Breeze was appointed as a referee for the AFC Asian Cup. He officiated group stage matches and the crucial semi-final between Saudi Arabia and Japan. In the same year, he also participated in the FIFA U-17 World Championship held in South Korea.
