Matthias Plachta: German Hockey Phenom
Matthias Plachta, a seasoned German ice hockey forward, currently plays for the Adler Mannheim club in the Deutsche Eishockey Liga (DEL). Son of former Polish hockey player and current coach of Poland's national hockey team, Jacek Plachta, Matthias has made a name for himself in the hockey world.
Early Career
Plachta's journey began with youth teams in Schwenningen and Mannheim. In 2008-09, he made his professional debut with Heilbronn in the DEL2, Germany's second-tier hockey league. A season later, he joined DEL powerhouse Adler Mannheim.
National Team and DEL Stardom
Plachta's stellar play in the DEL earned him a place on the German national team. With Adler Mannheim, he clinched the DEL championship in 2015, cementing his status as one of Germany's top players.
NHL Adventure
In 2015, Plachta signed a one-year contract with the Arizona Coyotes of the National Hockey League (NHL). He spent the 2015-16 season in the American Hockey League (AHL) with the Springfield Falcons, tallying two goals and seven points in 46 games.
Pittsburgh Penguins and Return to Mannheim
During the 2017 NHL draft, Plachta was traded to the Pittsburgh Penguins for Sergei Plotnikov. He played 30 games for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, an NHL farm club. However, without a move to the NHL roster, he decided against extending his contract.
On June 30, 2016, Plachta returned to Adler Mannheim, signing a four-year contract. He remains a key player for the club, continuing his remarkable career in the DEL.
