Biography of Maxim Kavun

Maxim Kavun is a historian, cultural scientist, publicist, and local historian. He is a candidate of historical sciences and an associate professor at the Department of Russian History at Oles Honchar Dnipro National University. He is an expert in the history of Ekaterinoslav-Dnipro and the Prydniprovska region. Kavun has been a member of the National Union of Local Historians of Ukraine since 1995.

Education and Academic Career

Maxim Kavun began his professional career in historical and cultural research at the age of 15. He graduated from Dnipro State University with a master's degree in history in 2000. He then completed his postgraduate studies at the Department of Russian History at Dnipro National University from 2000 to 2003. Since 2003, he has been teaching at Dnipro National University, where he offers courses on Russian history from the 9th to the 18th centuries. He also teaches specialized courses such as "Modernization of Russia: Reforms and Revolutions," "National Policy in the Russian Empire and the USSR," and "Russian Historical Urban Studies."

Research Interests and Contributions

Maxim Kavun is the author and co-author of 9 books and over 300 articles. His research interests include history, cultural science, urban studies, architectural history, historical topography, and toponymy. He has a particular focus on the cultural geography of the Black Sea region and the history of Northern Prydniprovia - Novorossiya - Southern Ukraine.

Contributions to Preservation of Historical Memory

In addition to his academic work, Maxim Kavun is actively involved in projects aimed at preserving the historical memory of Dnipro. He has been a scholarship recipient of the International Charitable Foundation "Smoloskyp" from 1996 to 2004 and the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine's "Scholarship for Young Scientists" from 2006 to 2008. He has also received acknowledgments from the Mayor of Dnipro in 2006, 2009, and 2011 for his contributions to the city.

Kavun is an honorary member of the creative club "Shtyrkh" organized by the youth organization "Experiment." He has authored one monograph and co-authored seven monographs. His selected works include numerous scientific and popular-scientific papers, as well as featured interviews. Maxim Kavun is dedicated to preserving and promoting the rich history and cultural heritage of Dnipro and the Prydniprovska region.
