Biography of Maxim Shatskikh
Maxim Shatskikh is an Uzbek footballer who plays as a forward. He has been a member of the national team since 1999. Shatskikh began his football career at the Pachtakor Sports School in Tashkent. He has been playing for Dynamo Kyiv since 1999 and is also the leading forward and captain of the Uzbekistan national football team.
Achievements
Shatskikh was twice the top scorer of the Ukrainian championship, with twenty goals in the 1999-2000 season and twenty-two goals in the 2002-2003 season, matching the record set by Sergey Rebrov who scored 22 goals in the 1997-1998 season for the same Dynamo Kyiv team. In the Ukrainian Premier League, Shatskikh played 215 matches and scored 97 goals. In the Ukrainian Cup, he played 40 matches and scored 22 goals. He also played 73 matches in European competitions and scored 23 goals.
In 2005, Shatskikh was ranked second among the top three Asian players, and is considered by many as one of the best Uzbek footballers for his skills and goal-scoring instincts.
On 15 October 2008, he scored his 30th goal for the national team in a group stage match against Japan for the 2010 FIFA World Cup, surpassing Mirdjalal Kasymov (29 goals) as the leading goal scorer in the history of the Uzbekistan national team.
