Early Life and Education
Medea Amirashvili was born on October 10, 1930, in the village of Shorapani, in the Georgian SSR. Her father, Pyotr Amirashvili, was an opera singer and People's Artist of the USSR. Her mother, N.A. Tsomoia, was also a singer. Amirashvili studied at the Tbilisi Conservatory under A.I. Inashvili and O.A. Bakatashvili-Shulgina, graduating in 1953.
Opera Career
From 1954, Amirashvili became a soloist at the Tbilisi Opera and Ballet Theater. She performed leading soprano roles in a wide range of operas. Amirashvili also toured extensively, performing in Poland, Czechoslovakia, Romania, East Germany, Hungary, Bulgaria, Australia, New Zealand, France, and Canada.
Teaching and Artistic Direction
In 1972, Amirashvili began teaching at the Tbilisi Conservatory. She became a professor in 1982. Since 1991, she has served as the Artistic Director of the Kutaisi Opera Theater.
Awards and Recognition
In 1976, Medea Amirashvili was awarded the title of People's Artist of the USSR. She is a highly acclaimed opera singer and pedagogue.
