Biography of Meiko
Meiko (full name Meiko Sheppard) is an American indie rock singer-songwriter from the United States. She was born on February 25, 1982, in the small town of Roberta, Georgia, with a population of only 800 people. Although her parents were born in America, her relatives on one side were immigrants from Japan, so from an early age, Meiko was interested in Asian culture.

At the age of 8, Meiko performed on stage for the first time, and since then, she couldn't leave the stage. With the help of her father, who she considers her main idol, she started writing her own songs and learning to play the guitar on her father's old six-string 'Gibson'. Meiko confessed that writing new songs came easily to her; she would write them every time she learned a new chord or technique on the guitar.
At the age of 18, right after finishing high school, Meiko decided to pursue a career in music. After spending some time in Miami, she moved to Los Angeles, California, where she still resides. In her first few months on the West Coast, Meiko performed a series of concerts and soon started regularly performing at the popular 'Hotel Café'. During her performance at the Sundance Film Festival, she caught the attention of Josh Jackson, the editor of 'Paste Magazine', who predicted a bright future for her in the music scene.
Shortly after that, Meiko appeared on the popular show 'Morning Becomes Eclectic', hosted by Nic Harcourt, often referred to as America's most popular radio DJ. In the same year, Meiko independently released her debut album 'Meiko', which, despite its low budget, reached No. 28 on the Billboard Top Heatseekers chart. A year later, the same album was reissued on the 'Lucky Ear' label and this time reached No. 14 on the same chart.
After her initial success, the number of live performances quickly increased, as did the interest in Meiko from music publications. In the following years, she focused more on her live performances, only returning to the studio to record singles. It wasn't until 2012 that her new studio album 'The Bright Side' was released, which debuted at No. 4 on the Billboard Top Heatseekers chart and No. 183 on the Billboard 200.
Interestingly, a significant portion of Meiko's songs have been featured in television series; many attribute this to her unique and uncomplicated sound combined with meaningful song lyrics.
