Biography of Michaela Oeste

Michaela Oeste was born in Germany in 1981 and grew up in the United States. After completing high school, she obtained a Bachelor's degree in music from the University of Central Arkansas and a Master's degree from Northwestern University.

Opera Career

In the 2012-2013 season, Oeste made her debut at the Los Angeles Opera as Zerlina in Don Giovanni, at the Opéra National de Montpellier as Virtù and Pallade in L'incoronazione di Poppea, at the Teatro de la Maestranza as Crobyle in Thaïs, and at the Gotham Chamber Opera as Flavia Gemmira in L'Eliogabalo. She also performed as Pedro in Don Quichotte at the San Diego Opera and as part of the Plácido Domingo Festival. In the previous season, she debuted as Zerlina at the Polish National Opera and sang Crobyle in Thaïs and L'Infante in a concert performance of Le Cid at the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía in Valencia, Spain. She has also performed with Plácido Domingo at the Royal Opera House in Muscat, Oman, and with the Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra in Croatia and at the Auditorio Nacional in Mexico City.

Washington National Opera

Oeste recently returned to the Washington National Opera to sing Oscar in Un ballo in maschera. She was previously a participant in the prestigious Domingo-Cafritz Young Artist Program at the Washington Opera, where she successfully portrayed Ophélie in Hamlet, Nannetta in Falstaff, the Woodbird in Siegfried, the First Niece in Peter Grimes, and Annina in La traviata.

Other Performances

Oeste has also performed at the Chicago Opera Theater as Créuse in Médée and Giunone in Il ritorno d'Ulisse in patria, with Domingo in Beijing as Gilda in Rigoletto, and as Lucy in The Telephone and the title role in Amelia al Ballo by Gian Carlo Menotti.

Concert Performances

Oeste made her debut at the annual Piccini Festival in Bari, Italy, singing the lead role in La Cecchina, ossia la buona figliuola. She also performed as Adina in L'elisir d'amore at the Opera Santa Barbara. On the concert stage, Oeste mainly performs excerpts from various operas. Her performances have included arias from Linda di Chamonix and Idomeneo at the Reignwood Theater in Beijing, and as Cleopatra in Giulio Cesare and Ophélie in Hamlet at the Accademia Teatro alla Scala.
