Biography of Michael Hayden
Michael Vincent Hayden was born on March 17, 1945, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to a welder's family. After graduating from a Catholic school, he continued his education at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh. While studying to become a historian, Hayden worked as a taxi driver to pay for his education.
In 1969, Hayden decided to dedicate his life to the military, specifically to the field of intelligence. He focused on improving his military education, graduating from the Air Force school at Maxwell Air Force Base in Alabama in 1975, the Air Command and Staff College at the same base in 1978, the Intelligence School at Bolling Air Force Base in Washington, D.C. in 1980, and the U.S. Army War College in Norfolk, Virginia in 1983.
Hayden served in South Korea and later worked as a military attaché at the U.S. Embassy in Sofia. From 1993 to 1995, he served as the Director of Intelligence for the European Command of the U.S. Armed Forces in Stuttgart, Germany, where he held the rank of brigadier general. He later became the Director of the National Security Agency (NSA) as a lieutenant general. Since 2005, he has served as the Deputy Director of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA).

Following the resignation of Porter Goss, President George W. Bush announced the appointment of Air Force General Michael Hayden as the new Director of the CIA. President Bush described him as the "most qualified candidate" who "knows the intelligence community from the ground up." Hayden's appointment required Senate confirmation.
Personal Life
Michael Hayden is married to Janine Carrier, and they have a daughter and two sons.
