Biography of Michael Oher

Michael Oher, born Michael Jerome Williams Jr. in 1986 in Memphis, Tennessee, is an American football player. He grew up in a troubled family, with an absent father and an alcoholic and drug-addicted mother. Oher was one of 12 children, and he faced many challenges throughout his childhood. Shuffling between different schools and foster families, Oher struggled academically and socially, often being expelled for his poor grades.

However, everything changed when a friend of his late father introduced him to Briarcrest Christian School, a private institution. Recognizing Oher's athletic potential, the school's football coach welcomed him, despite his academic struggles. While his acceptance into the school provided him with stability, Oher still faced the challenge of catching up with his peers academically.

It was during this time that the Tuohy family, a wealthy and successful family, took an interest in Oher. Initially, they allowed him to stay at their home for one night, but they soon formed a deep bond with him. Leigh Anne Tuohy, her husband Sean Tuohy, and their two children became Oher's biggest supporters. Leigh Anne, in particular, showed incredible determination and hired a private tutor to help Oher improve his grades.

As Oher's football skills developed, he caught the attention of scouts from prominent American universities. However, his poor academic performance still posed a challenge. Through Leigh Anne's unwavering support and dedication, Oher managed to graduate from high school with positive results.

Oher had the opportunity to attend several universities, including the University of Tennessee, Louisiana State University, the University of Alabama, and the University of South Carolina. Ultimately, he chose the University of Mississippi because it was where his adoptive parents had attended.

In 2009, Oher was selected in the first round of the NFL draft as the 23rd pick by the Baltimore Ravens. He quickly gained recognition as one of the best rookies in the league. Oher's life story became the inspiration for the book "The Blind Side: Evolution of a Game" by Michael Lewis, which was later adapted into a film. Sandra Bullock, who portrayed Leigh Anne Tuohy in the movie, was nominated for an Oscar for her performance.

Oher is known for his aggressive and tough playing style on the field, but off the field, he remains a gentle and kind-hearted person. He is immensely grateful to his adoptive family, who provided him with a second chance in life. The Tuohy family considers Oher as their own son and takes great pride in his accomplishments.
