Michael O'Leary, Irish Business Magnate
Michael O'Leary is an Irish businessman and the chief executive officer of the Irish low-cost airline Ryanair. He is one of the wealthiest businesspeople in Ireland.
Early Life and Education
Born on March 20, 1961, O'Leary was the second of six children raised in Kanturk, County Cork. He received his education at Clongowes Wood College in County Kildare and Trinity College Dublin. After graduating from Trinity, he worked as a trainee accountant with Stokes Kennedy Crowley (later known for becoming KPMG).
Business Ventures
After two years, O'Leary established profitable accountancy practices in Walkinstown and Terenure, Dublin.
Ryanair's Executive Director
O'Leary served as deputy chief executive of Ryanair between 1991 and 1994. He was appointed Ryanair's CEO in January 1994. Under O'Leary's leadership, Ryanair successfully adopted the low-cost airline model pioneered by Southwest Airlines.
