Early Career and Junior Success

Torsten Görlitzer began his luge career in 1973 in Zwickau, Germany. He later joined the "Traktor" sports club in Oberwiesenthal. In 1976, he made his debut at the European Junior Championships, where he finished fifth and sixth. Two years later, he again placed fifth at the same event.

Olympic Participation and World Championship Medals

Görlitzer was a reserve member of the East German luge team at the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid. In 1984, he competed in the men's singles event at the Sarajevo Olympics and finished in fourth place. At the 1988 Calgary Olympics, he placed slightly lower, taking fifth position.

On the world championship level, Görlitzer won two medals in the men's singles category: a gold in Oberhof (1985) and a silver in Hammarstrand (1981).

European Success and World Cup Victory

Görlitzer also achieved success at the European Championships. In 1986, he won a bronze medal in the singles event in Hammarstrand. Two years later, he took silver in the team competition in Königssee. Additionally, Görlitzer claimed the overall victory in the 1983/84 World Cup standings.

Career After Luge

Following his retirement from luge, Görlitzer pursued a career in construction. He managed a building company in Annaberg-Buchholz, Germany.
