Early Life and Career
Michel Bastos was born in Pelotas, Brazil, and began his football career with hometown club EC Pelotas. He moved to the Netherlands in 2002, joining Feyenoord but was loaned out to Excelsior where he made 28 appearances before returning to Brazil.
Return to Brazil
Bastos played for Atlético Paranaense, Grêmio, and Figueirense in Brazil, showcasing his attacking prowess and powerful left foot.
Arrival in France
In 2006, Bastos moved to Lille in France, making his debut in a 2-1 win over Rennes. He scored his first goal for the club against Lens and netted 3 goals in his first season.
Dominance on the Left
Bastos became a key player for Lille in the 2007/08 season, earning a permanent place on the left flank of midfield and establishing himself as the team's set-piece specialist. He scored 16 goals and provided 13 assists in the 2008/09 campaign, becoming the club's top scorer and finishing 5th in the league.
Move to Lyon
In June 2009, Bastos joined Olympique Lyonnais for a transfer fee of €18 million. He scored his first goal for the club in the Champions League against Anderlecht and made his international debut for Brazil in November 2009.

Bastos faced injuries in 2011, but he played a key role in Brazil's 2010 World Cup campaign. He was utilized as a left-back, providing support for teammate Robinho and scoring a goal against Zimbabwe.
Club Success
Bastos returned to Brazil in 2014, signing with São Paulo. He joined Palmeiras in 2017, winning the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A and Copa Libertadores in 2020.
