Military Service and Resistance
During World War II, Jobert actively participated in the French Resistance movement, earning him the esteemed Legion of Honour and Military Cross.
Government Career
In 1948, Jobert graduated from the École nationale d'administration (National School of Administration). He served as the General Secretary of President Georges Pompidou from 1969 to 1973. From 1971 to 1986, he held the position of First Counselor of the French Court of Audit.
Foreign Minister
Jobert's political career reached its peak when he was appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs on April 4, 1973, serving until May 28, 1974. As Foreign Minister, he advocated for a left-leaning Gaullist approach.
Political Evolution
In the 1974 presidential campaign, Jobert initially supported Jacques Chaban-Delmas. However, after Valéry Giscard d'Estaing's victory, Jobert founded his own political movement, the Movement of Democrats (Mouvement des démocrates). He later endorsed François Mitterrand in the 1981 presidential election.
