In 1962, Jonasz left school to focus on music. Inspired by French chanson legends such as Jacques Brel and Georges Brassens, as well as rock-and-roll bands like Les Chats Sauvages, he formed his first band, Kenty et les Skylarks. Later, he and his childhood friend Alain Goldstein founded Les Lemons, performing as backup singers for Moroccan singer Vigon.

In 1967, Jonasz and Goldstein released their debut single as King Set, but it met with limited success. Moving on, Jonasz adopted the stage name Michel King Set and provided backing vocals for various artists. His first single under his real name, "Adieu la terre," released in 1969, also failed to make a significant impact.

After a brief hiatus and travels in America and Beirut, Jonasz returned with renewed artistic ambitions. Collaborating with Alain Goldstein, he began writing for other artists. However, his desire to perform solo led to two successful singles in 1971 and 1972. In 1974, he released his debut album, which featured the iconic song "Super Nana." Despite its popularity on radio, the album faced commercial disappointment.
