Early Life and Career

Michel Méunier was born on January 24, 1956, in Rezé, a suburb of Nantes. She began her political journey in 1989 as deputy mayor of Nantes under Jean-Marc Ayrault.

Local and Regional Leadership

From 2001 to 2015, Méunier served as a member of the General Council of Loire-Atlantique for the canton of Nantes-2. In 2004, she became vice-president of the General Council for children and families, a role she held until 2011.

Senatorial Representation

2011-present: Senator for Loire-Atlantique

In 2011, Méunier entered the senatorial elections as the second candidate on a left-wing list led by Yannick Vaugrenard. The list won three mandates, securing her a seat in the Senate. She retained her mandate in the 2017 elections, again on Vaugrenard's list, which now represented the Socialist Party.

As a senator, Méunier serves on the Social Affairs Committee. In 2013, she was appointed to the National Consultative Committee on Ethics at the proposal of Prime Minister Jean-Marc Ayrault.

National Standing

During the Socialist Party's presidential primary in 2017, Méunier played a key role in Benoît Hamon's campaign by overseeing child protection issues.
