Early Life and Military Service
Mikhail Grigorievich Dubkov, a prominent Soviet military commander, was born in the village of Butovo, now part of the Yegoryevsky District in the Moscow region. In 1914, he joined the Imperial Russian Army and in 1915 graduated from the Regimental Training Command. During World War I, he served on the Southwestern Front as a senior non-commissioned officer in the 17th Infantry Regiment of the 65th Infantry Division.
Civil War and Interwar Service
In 1918, Dubkov joined the Red Army. During the Civil War, he served as a platoon and company commander on the Eastern and Southern Fronts. He was severely wounded in the defense of Tsaritsyn.
In 1922, Dubkov was appointed commander of the 22nd Simbirsk Independent Special Purpose Company. In subsequent years, he held various command positions within the Volga Military District, including as commander of the 334th Simbirsk Independent Special Purpose Battalion, the Syzran Garrison Company, and acting head of the regimental school of the 101st Syzran Rifle Regiment. In 1923, he joined the Communist Party of the Soviet Union (CPSU).
After completing the Advanced Rifle-Tactical Courses at the "Vystrel" school in 1929, Dubkov became battalion commander in the 2nd Ulyanovsk Rifle Regiment of the 1st Kazan Rifle Division. In 1931, he graduated from the armored vehicle courses at the tank regiment.
Pre-World War II Commands
Dubkov's distinguished career continued with a series of command positions. From October 1931 to January 1932, he was commander of a battalion in the 254th Zlatoust Rifle Regiment. From January 1932 to April 1935, he commanded the regiment itself. In 1935, he was appointed commander-commissar of the 31st Astrakhan Rifle Regiment.
From June 1937, Dubkov commanded the 22nd Rifle Division of the Special Red Banner Far Eastern Army. In March 1938, he was promoted to commander of the 26th Rifle Corps of the 1st Red Banner Army on the Far Eastern Front. In August 1938, he played a key role in the battles at Lake Khasan.
World War II and Postwar Service
In November 1940, Dubkov became inspector of infantry for the Far Eastern Front. At the outbreak of World War II, he was appointed commander of the Special Rifle Corps on the Far Eastern Front, responsible for defending the USSR's border with Japan on Sakhalin Island.
From July 1943 to September 1943, Dubkov served as acting commander of the 16th Army, which was formed from the Special Rifle Corps. After the war, he held various positions in the Kazan Military District and the Main Personnel Directorate. In 1946, he retired and died in Syzran on October 30, 1950.
