Early Life and Education

Mikhail Romanyv was born on July 30, 1956, in the village of Korniv, Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast, Ukraine. From September 1973 to July 1974, he worked as a lathe operator at the "Graviton" plant in Chernivtsi. Romanyv then attended the Chernivtsi Financial College from September 1974 to April 1978, with a brief interruption from 1974 to 1976 for military service in the USSR Armed Forces.

In 1983, Romanyv graduated from Chernivtsi State University with a degree in finance. He also holds a PhD in "Formation and Development of State Financial Control in Ukraine" from the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv.

Political Career

Romanyv's political career began in 1988 when he became the Deputy Chief Controller-Auditor of the Ukrainian Ministry of Finance for Chernivtsi Oblast. From 1990 to 1996, he held various positions in the Chernivtsi Oblast State Administration, including Deputy Chief Financial Officer and Deputy Chairman.

In 1996, Romanyv was appointed Head of the Ukrainian Ministry of Finance Department in Kyiv. He also served as Deputy Head of the Main Control and Audit Administration of Ukraine.

Head of Chernivtsi Oblast State Administration

Romanyv was first appointed Head of the Chernivtsi Oblast State Administration on July 25, 2003. He resigned from this position on January 21, 2005, following the resignation of Ukrainian President Leonid Kuchma. Romanyv was reappointed to the post on March 15, 2014, but stepped down after protests from activists accusing him of ties to the previous government.
