Early Life and Career
Mika Kanai is a Japanese actress and voice actress (seiyuu) who is affiliated with Production Ogi. Her acting debut came in 2000, when she portrayed Janet in the Japanese version of the Broadway musical "Annie."
Film and Television
Before transitioning to voice acting, Kanai appeared in small roles in Japanese horror films such as "Suicide Circle" and "Battle Royale II: Requiem." Her breakthrough role came in 2004 as Koume Kudo (Umeko) in the tokusatsu television series "Tokusou Sentai Dekaranger."
Voice Acting
Starting in 2005, Kanai began her voice acting career by voicing the rabbit-like character Mokona in both "Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle" and "×××HOLiC," based on the popular mangas by the CLAMP team. She also hosted NHK's children's television program "Nyanchuu World."
Additionally, Kanai hosted internet radio programs for "Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle" with fellow voice actress Yui Makino and for "Mai-Otome" with Ami Koshimizu. In "Mai-Otome," she voiced the protagonist, Arika Yumemiya.
Personal Life
On her birthday, December 16, 2009, Kanai married actor Yuji Kishi, who is 13 years her senior. They met in 2007 during a Japanese stage tour of the musical "Les Misérables" and coincidentally both made their acting debuts in Super Sentai series.
