Early Life and Career
Mikail Jabrayilovwas born on April 27, 1952 in Oghud village, Shaki, Azerbaijan. His father, Ahmed Jabrayilov, was a participant in the French Resistance during World War II.
After graduating from secondary school, Jabrayilov attended the Police Academy and graduated in 1971. He joined the Shaki City Police Department. In 1978, Lieutenant Jabrayilov became a precinct inspector.
Nagorno-Karabakh Conflict
On December 12, 1990, Senior Lieutenant Jabrayilov led a group of four police officers to the village of Jamily in Nagorno-Karabakh, a region disputed by Azerbaijan and Armenia. Their mission was to protect the Azerbaijani population.
Days later, Jabrayilov's group went to the neighboring village of Kosalar to procure grain for the residents of Jamily. On December 15, as they returned to Jamily, they were ambushed by Armenian forces.
Heroism and Sacrifice
One of Jabrayilov's officers was killed by a sniper, and Jabrayilov himself was wounded in the shoulder. Despite his injury, he continued fighting until he was tragically killed in the line of duty.
At the time of his death, Jabrayilov was married with one child. He was buried in his hometown of Oghud.
Legacy
National HeroBy presidential decree, Jabrayilov was posthumously awarded the title of National Hero of Azerbaijan on June 6, 1992.
Memory and Honor
A street in Shaki is named after Jabrayilov, and a monument stands over his grave in Oghud cemetery. His personal belongings, found after his death, are displayed in the Rashid Bek Efendiev Historical and Ethnographical Museum in Shaki.

Mikail Jabrayilov's bravery and sacrifice during the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict made him a national hero. He remains a symbol of courage, patriotism, and the sacrifices made in the defense of Azerbaijan.
