Milda Lauberte was a Latvian and former Soviet chess player and physician. She was born on April 24, 1918, in Riga, Latvia.

Early Life and Career

Lauberte showed an early interest in chess and began competing in tournaments at a young age. She became the Latvian women's champion in 1937 and went on to represent Latvia in several international events.

World Championships and Soviet Championships

In 1937 and 1939, Lauberte participated in the Women's World Chess Championships, finishing third-fourth and sixth, respectively. She also competed in several Soviet Women's Chess Championships, achieving her best result with a seventh-eighth place finish in 1954.

Team Success and Latvian Dominance

In 1955, Lauberte played on the first board for Latvia in the Soviet Team Chess Championship, helping her team to a first-second place finish. She was also an 11-time champion of the Latvian SSR Women's Chess Championship, winning the title every year from 1948 to 1960.

Later Years and Legacy

After retiring from competitive chess, Lauberte continued to be active in the game. She served as a coach and organizer, promoting women's chess in Latvia. Lauberte passed away on June 11, 2009, at the age of 91. She is remembered as one of the most successful Latvian chess players of all time.
