Early Life and Education

Michael Jeter was born in Laurenceburg, Tennessee, in 1952. He initially pursued a degree in medicine at Memphis State University before realizing his true passion for acting.

Early Career and Broadway Success

Jeter began performing in Memphis theaters before making his Broadway debut in 1978's "Once in a Lifetime." He received his first theatrical award, the Theatre World Award, in 1979 for his role in "G.R. Point."

Film and Television Career

In 1979, Jeter made his film debut in Miloš Forman's adaptation of the musical "Hair." He went on to appear in a wide range of films, including "Ragtime," "Zelig," "The Money Pit," and "Waterworld."

On television, Jeter gained recognition for his roles as Herman Stiles in "Evening Shade," for which he won an Emmy Award, and Mr. Noodle's brother in "Sesame Street."

Major Roles and Collaborations

Jeter received critical acclaim for his performances in films such as "The Fisher King," "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas," and "The Green Mile." He collaborated with Robin Williams in "Patch Adams" and "Jakob the Liar."

Legacy and Death

Known for his infectious humor and positive outlook, Jeter continued to joke even after being diagnosed with HIV. He died in 2003 at the age of 50 due to epilepsy, not HIV. Jeter's ashes were scattered according to his wishes.
