Early Life and Career

Mohamed Zidan was born in Egypt and began his football career in 1998 with Al-Masry, a club in the Egyptian Premier League. In 1999, his family emigrated to Denmark, where Zidan joined the Danish club AB the same year.

Rise to Prominence in Denmark

Zidan's four seasons at AB were characterized by a slow start but eventual success. After struggling to break into the starting lineup in the 1999/2000 season, he became a regular member in 2001. In the 2003/2004 season, he was named the league's best newcomer, and he was voted the Danish Superliga Player of the Year in 2004/2005.

Stint in Germany

In 2005, Zidan moved to Germany to play for Werder Bremen in the Bundesliga. However, he failed to break into the starting lineup and spent the 2005/2006 season on loan at Mainz 05. After a successful summer with Werder Bremen in 2006, Zidan was again sidelined by injury. In 2007, he was sold to Mainz 05 for €3 million.

Goalscoring Exploits in Mainz

At Mainz, Zidan scored 6 goals in 5 matches, earning him the Bundesliga Player of the Month award for February 2007. However, his team was relegated to the second division at the end of the season.

Success with Hamburg and Borussia Dortmund

In 2007, Zidan joined Hamburg for €5 million, where he won the Intertoto Cup in 2007. In August 2008, he transferred to Borussia Dortmund, where he scored his first goal against his former club Werder Bremen.

Return to Mainz and International Career

Zidan returned to Mainz in 2012 and has played for the Egyptian national team since 2005. He participated in the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations, where his goal against Cameroon was voted the best of the tournament. Zidan also played in the 2009 Confederations Cup and was part of Egypt's 2010 African Cup of Nations-winning squad.
