Hamina's career began with documentary films. In 1965, he made his mark with the feature-length war film "The Winds of Aures," which earned him the Best Debut Film award at the Cannes Film Festival and launched his international recognition.
International Success
Subsequently, Hamina continued to work primarily in France. In 1975, he achieved historical significance when he received the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival for "Chronicle of the Years of Fire," becoming the first African filmmaker to win the prestigious award.
