Molly Peters was a British actress who gained most of her fame for her role as Patricia Fearing, James Bond's love interest, in the 1965 film "Thunderball." She was the first Bond girl to appear nude on screen, which nearly caused the film to receive an "X" rating.

Early Life and Career

Molly Peters was born on March 15, 1942, in Walsham-le-Willows, Suffolk, England. She first made a name for herself in the modeling industry, which caught the attention of film director Terence Young. Peters appeared in several films in the 1960s, but her most memorable role was as Patricia "Pat" Fearing, a nurse who takes care of James Bond, played by Sean Connery, during his stay in a clinic.

Controversial Scenes and Playboy Appearance

Molly Peters became the first Bond girl to appear nude on screen in "Thunderball." However, several scenes from the film had to be cut at the request of the British Board of Film Classification, deeming them too risqué. In 1965, Peters also appeared in Playboy magazine's November issue, coinciding with the release of Richard Maibaum's graphic essay titled "James Bond's Girls."

Career Decline and Personal Life

According to additional DVD materials for "Thunderball," Peters' film career quickly ended due to disagreements between her and her agent. She was still under contract with her agent when the highly successful fourth James Bond film was released in 1965. However, a few years later, as both the film and Peters' role as "one of many Bond girls" gradually faded from memory, her contract expired.

Later on, Molly Peters appeared as Vera in the thriller "Das Geheimnis der gelben Mönche," the teleplay "Das Experiment," and the comedy "Don't Raise the Bridge, Lower the River" with Jerry Lewis. She got married and lived in Ipswich, Suffolk, where she had a son. Tragically, her son predeceased her. In 2011, Peters suffered a moderate stroke. She passed away on May 30, 2017, at the age of 76, just one week after the death of another Bond franchise member, Roger Moore, who portrayed James Bond from 1973 to 1985.
