Biography of Muhammad Hafiz

Muhammad Hafiz was born in the village of Tidib in the Shamilsky district in 1895. His father, Ibrahimhalil Muhammad, was a respected member of the community. At the age of six, Muhammad Hafiz's father taught him how to read the Quran and perform prayers. He continued his religious education under the guidance of a local scholar until the age of fourteen. By the time he turned eighteen, he had memorized the entire Quran, earning him the honorary title of "Hafiz."

In 1922, Muhammad Hafiz travelled to Gentab to further his studies. There, he continued his pursuit of knowledge in Islamic studies for many years. In 1928, he was imprisoned for eight months due to his religious activities. During his confinement, he read the Quran, which he managed to sneak into his cell. After his release, he made a promise to refrain from openly practicing his faith.

Muhammad Hafiz frequently attended religious gatherings and studied under various scholars, including Muhammad Arif, Gitinamukhammad, Husenil Muhammad, Saadukhajiasul Muhammad, Hamza-effendi, and Abdurrazakil Muhammad. He also visited Sheikh Saifullah Kadi in Khunzakh, where he received permission to practice the Nakshbandi and Shazali Sufi orders.

Muhammad Hafiz was known for his kindness and compassion. Despite criticisms that he provided spiritual guidance to individuals who had committed unworthy acts in the past, he believed that everyone deserved a chance to find the true path of Allah. He maintained close contact with the Spiritual Administration while it was still in Shura (now Buynaksk), and he received numerous letters with questions and requests for guidance.

During the last three years of his life, Muhammad Hafiz suffered from illness. Despite his weakness, he continued to share interesting and instructive stories about Islamic knowledge and the Quran. Muhammad Hafiz passed away on November 25, 1985, leaving behind a legacy of devotion and wisdom.
