Early Life and Education
Mirra Alexandrovna was born in the Novgorod town of Borovichi, where she grew up with a passion for the arts. She excelled in singing, dancing, and live performances, leading her to study at the prestigious Vaganov Ballet Academy in Leningrad.
Wartime in Borovichi
On her 10th birthday in June 1941, Mirra visited her mother in Borovichi when war broke out. Trapped due to road closures, she spent the next two years working in a sewing workshop and as a bricklayer at a factory. Despite the hardships, her artistic spirit remained undeterred.
Joining the Leningrad Theater of Operetta
In March 1943, the Leningrad Theater of Operetta was evacuated to Borovichi. Mirra's mother arranged an audition for her, and her impressive dancing, recitation, and singing skills earned her acceptance into the theater's ballet studio. She performed in local hospitals for wounded soldiers, bringing joy and solace amidst the turmoil of war.
Post-War Career
In 1945, Mirra returned to Leningrad and completed her ballet studies a year later. She was invited to perform in Pyatigorsk for three years before returning home. Her career continued to flourish, earning her accolades such as the title of Merited Artist of the RSFSR (1982) and Veteran of Labor (1983).
