Early Career and Promise
Nabih Dirar began his football journey in Belgium, starting with youth teams at Molenbeek and Union before signing with Diegem Sport in 2005. After two seasons, he moved to Westerlo, where he helped the team earn promotion to the Belgian Pro League. His impressive performances earned comparisons to fellow Moroccan Mubarrak Boussoufa.
Success at Club Brugge
In 2008, Dirar joined Club Brugge, where he quickly became a key player under coach Jacky Mathijssen. He played a significant role in the team's third-place finish in the 2008-09 season, earning a place in the UEFA Europa League. However, under new coach Adri Koster, Dirar's behavior on and off the field became an issue, leading to suspensions and conflicts with teammates.
Controversy and Redemption
Dirar's declining discipline continued into the 2009-10 season, culminating in a spitting incident against a Mechelen player. He was subsequently sent to the reserve team for repeated tardiness and clashes with fellow players. Despite these setbacks, Dirar's impressive performances in the reserves earned him a return to the first team, where he regained his place in the starting line-up.
Record Transfer to Monaco
Dirar's resurgence attracted the attention of AS Monaco, who paid a club-record fee of €7.5 million for his services in January 2012. He made his debut in a 1-0 win over Bastia and quickly became a regular in the team, scoring four goals and providing numerous assists. Under coach Claudio Ranieri, he played primarily as a left winger, helping Monaco earn promotion to Ligue 1 in 2013.
Fenerbahçe Move
After five seasons at Monaco, Dirar joined Turkish club Fenerbahçe in 2017. He remains a valuable member of the team, contributing his experience and skill to the squad.
International Career
Dirar initially expressed his intention to play for Belgium but later switched his allegiance to Morocco. He made his debut for the Atlas Lions in 2008 but has not been a regular fixture in the national team.
