An Hye-jin: A Rising Star in Korean Archery

Early Life and Training

An Hye-jin, born in Suncheon, South Korea, began her archery journey at a young age. She commenced intensive training in the third grade of elementary school. An attended Sunnam Elementary School in Suncheon, where she emerged as the national champion in the fifth grade in 2016. She continued her education at Pungdok Middle School in Suncheon and eventually graduated from Suncheon Girls' High School.

Career Highlights

In 2020, An showcased her talents by winning the National Championship and the Hwarang National Competition. The same year, she was selected for the youth national team but could not compete internationally due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In 2023, An participated in the National Championship, claiming a team silver medal. She also competed at the National Sports Festival, earning silver in both individual and team events.

Olympic Success

In 2024, An's stellar performance at the Korean Olympic trials secured her a spot on the Korean team for the 2024 Summer Olympics in both individual and team events. She represented her country at the 2024 Archery World Cup, contributing to her team's gold medal victory. However, she did not advance past the ranking round in the individual competition.

At the Olympics, An ranked second in the individual ranking round with 688 points, behind only Lim Si-hyun, who set a new Olympic record. In the team event, An, Lim, and Jeong Hun-yeong set an Olympic record with a combined score of 2046 points. They went on to win the gold medal, extending South Korea's record of consecutive victories in the women's team event to 10.
