Early Life and Education
Nana Jorjadze was born in Georgia and began her artistic journey at a young age. In 1966, she graduated from a music college, followed by studies in architecture at the Tbilisi Academy of Arts in 1972. For several years, she worked as an architect before pursuing her passion for filmmaking.
Film Career
In 1974, Jorjadze enrolled in the State Theater Institute's film directing program, where she studied under renowned directors Tengiz Abuladze and Irakli Kvirikadze. She made her film debut in 1977, starring in several acclaimed Georgian films, including "A Few Interviews on Personal Matters" and "Swimmer."
Directing and Screenwriting
Jorjadze's directorial debut, "Trio," was released in 1978. Throughout her career, she has helmed numerous films, including "Robinzoniada, or My English Grandfather" (1987), "Summer, or 27 Stolen Kisses" (2000), and "Lorelei" (2013). Additionally, she has written the screenplays for many of her films.
Recognition and Honors
Jorjadze's films have been recognized with prestigious awards, including the "Golden Camera" for Best Debut at the Cannes Film Festival in 1987 and the Lenin Komsomol Prize of Georgia in 1982. She has also been a member of the European Film Academy since 1994.
