Nancy Lee Grahn: American Soap Opera Star

Nancy Lee Grahn was born in Skokie, Illinois, the second of three daughters. She began her acting career in local theater as a teenager. After graduating from high school, Grahn worked at the Goodman Theatre in Chicago and continued her education in New York City.

Career Beginnings

Her first television role was a small part in the series "Little House on the Prairie." She then landed a starring role as Beverly Wilkes on the soap opera "One Life to Live."

"Santa Barbara" and Emmy Award

In 1982, Grahn moved to Los Angeles. In 1985, she joined the cast of NBC's "Santa Barbara." Her portrayal of attorney Julia Wainwright Capwell, a feminist and devoted mother, earned her an Emmy Award in 1989, three Soap Opera Digest Awards, and Soap Opera Update's Most Valuable Player Award.

"General Hospital" and Subsequent Roles

In 1996, Grahn joined the cast of "General Hospital." Her role as lawyer Alexis Davis, also known as Natasha Cassadine, was another critical and commercial success. She received Emmy nominations in 2000, 2003, 2004, and 2005, a Soap Opera Digest Award in 2002, and was voted Outstanding Lead Actress by fans in 2003.

Personal Life

Grahn gave birth to a daughter, Katherine Grace Lee Grahn, in 1998. She has been active in politics and philanthropy, particularly supporting victims of incest, families of alcoholics, and people with disabilities.

Cancer Advocacy

In 2007, Grahn's character, Alexis, underwent chemotherapy for lung cancer. This led Grahn to become an outspoken advocate and provided support to cancer patients.
