Biography of Nancy Olson

Nancy Olson, an American actress and nominee for an Academy Award in 1950, was born on July 14, 1928, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She was born into a family of a doctor, Henry Olson, and his wife, Evelyn.

Rise to Fame

In 1948, Nancy signed a contract with Paramount Pictures and caught the attention of Hollywood directors after a few small roles, including the renowned Billy Wilder. In 1950, Wilder invited Nancy to play the role of Betty Schaefer in his film "Sunset Boulevard", for which Olson was nominated for an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress. Her co-star in this film was William Holden, with whom she had a successful partnership throughout the 1950s. In 1950, Nancy married poet Alan Jay Lerner and they had two daughters. They divorced in 1957. Her second husband was businessman Alan W. Livingston, who became the father of her son.

Later Career

In the 1960s, Nancy's career declined, but she still had notable roles such as Nancy Templeton in "Pollyanna" (1960), Elizabeth Browne in "Son of Flubber" (1963), and Mrs. Abbott in "Airport 1975" (1974). Later on, Nancy moved to New York and performed on Broadway stages for some time.

In the 1970s, Nancy occasionally appeared on television, but she completely stopped acting in 1984. After that, Olson only made one film appearance in 1997 in a cameo role in the Disney movie "Flubber".
