Early Life and EducationNathan Paul Myhrvold, a renowned entrepreneur and former Chief Technology Officer of Microsoft, was born in Seattle, Washington. He entered college at a remarkably young age of 14 and pursued studies in mathematics, geophysics, and space physics at the University of California, Los Angeles. Myhrvold obtained bachelor's and master's degrees from UCLA and went on to earn a master's degree in mathematical economics and a doctorate in theoretical and mathematical physics from Princeton University. During his academic journey, he spent some time studying in Santa Monica College and Cambridge, where he had the opportunity to intern under the supervision of Stephen Hawking.
Professional Career
After his time in Cambridge, Myhrvold co-founded a computer startup called Dynamical Systems Research Inc in Oakland, California. The company developed a system named "Mondrian," which was essentially a clone of IBM's multitasking system, TopView. In 1986, Microsoft acquired Myhrvold's project for $1.5 million. He then spent 13 years at Microsoft, where he founded the division known as Microsoft Research in 1991. In 2000, Myhrvold left Microsoft and went on to establish Intellectual Ventures, a patent holding company that focuses on various technology and energy sectors. The company currently owns around 30,000 patents, and Myhrvold personally owns approximately 40% of the company. It generates an annual income of $20-40 million for him.
